Global Perspectives in January

Hello and greetings reader!
On behalf of Global Perspectives, I would like to apologize for the tardiness of this blog. I'm sure you were all biting your fingernails, wondering what became of Jeremy and his intrepid gang of intercultural friends, but alas, alack, with classes beginning and all of our awesome programming, things got busy. The month of January was undoubtedly a good one for Global Perspectives. We kicked off 2010 with a screening of Ip Man, a martial arts tour de force from director Wilson Yip. The audience of 40 or so starry-eyed movie fans was spell bound by the incredible fight scenes and the free Chinese food. After this very successful event, our group moved on to bigger and better things. Specifically, the design of our 3x4 poster for the upcoming exposition. I won't comment further upon the subject lest I spoil the surprise and wonderment our poster will surely create, but needless to say it is INCREDIBLE. We have great things planned for the month of February, so keep posted and thanks for reading.

Hello esteemed readers! (Above are two of our speakers: Henri Benaim and Evelyn Hu)

I, Aaron Landis, have been charged with delivering this month's update, and a busy month it has been. Our group, Global Perspectives has been busy planning our recently held Speakers Panel along with several upcoming events you will certainly hear more about in the coming weeks. Our speakers' panel turned out very well. Roughly 30 people attended our conference on Chinese culture and economic opportunities. Our three speakers Evelyn Hu, Henri Benaim and Tommy Obenchain (who is a senior here at Vandy) gave excellent presentations and participated in a very stimulating question and answer session. We here at Global Perspectives extend our sincere gratitude to them and all of the people who made our event possible.

Global Discovery #2

Hello!
Aaron here with updates for Global Discovery's activity in September (and early October). First and foremost, we held our second movie event in the Commons with an excellent turn out. "Ringu," the Japanese inspiration for the American Film "The Ring" attracted roughly 80 students, and on a Saturday night of all times! A week prior to our movie event we held a general body meeting for students interested in our cause and saw a broad range, from freshmen to graduate students, all eager to help our little group grow. We've had two great months so far, and with a speaker's panel event in the works along with an international meet, greet and eat, the next months promise to be even better, if we all survive the classes and tests that is. Global Discovery

Into the New World

What would The Departed look like without Martin Scorsese magic touch and Leonardo DiCaprio aging face? At least 60 more people at Vanderbilt have the answer to this question as they walk out of the Commons multipurpose room at 2am after watching Infernal Affair, a Hong Kong film that was turned Hollywood, on Sunday. 

Global Discovery Project attempts to bring international culture to Vanderbilt. Simultaneously, we also want to connect international student to American culture and lifestyle. In other words, we want to help everyone in the community to enter a new world where cultural barriers are completely broken down. 

Next month, we will be taking another group of student into the world of horror. This time, in association with the Commons and the International Lens Series, we will be continuing our before Hollywood Series at the Commons with Ringu, a Japanese horror movie that was turn into The Ring.
